Dictator of Libya. How do you spell his name?

Khadaffi, Gadafi, Ghadaffi, Gaddafi, Gadhafi, Khaddafi, Gadhaffi, Qaddafi, or some other way? I'm so confused! Why are there so many different spellings? I realize there is only 1 right way in Arabic...Why can't he just tell the rest of us how to spell the freakin' thing with the Latin alphabet? Or is it another one of his many eccentricities?
